Why You Shouldn't Rent at 2290 Girouard
Renting at 2290 Girouard
I lived at 2290 Girouard for 5 years from 2004 to 2009. A full description of my experiences is already online. I would feel bad if I didn't share my list of suspicions and reasons for not renting at 2290.
Firstly the management has not changed. It is still Marc Barchichat and his goons. The rents may be double but according to high rent payers at 1520 Dr. Penfield the service is no better. The only repairs they consider are quick and dirty jobs that save them money - such as changing the heating, plumbing.
The key questions about the renovations though aren't whether the apartments look good (because a lot looked good before they started), it's whether they've re-done the roof and rusting drainage pipes, exterminated cockroaches building-wide, fixed building-wide wiring and fixed the entrance-way doors/buzzer etc. I'd be worried about any or all of these 4 things especially the wiring because the wiring in the walls is a total mess so I'd be surprised if they did it. They've "converted" the heating from old-school hot-water grates (beautiful) to electric but I'd be surprised if the building wiring can support the extra current. Most scary is that none of the wiring in the building was grounded and so I'd be worried about the risk of fire. Oh, and just a heads up that it'll be hard to get insurance (unless you lie) because of the pizza pizza's deep fryer.
By renting at 2290 Girouard you'd also be giving money to dishonest real estate agents.
Also, you are going to have to deal with Marc Barchichat personally.
Another reason not to rent might be the uncertainty surrounding another possible sale. Such a sale could even become litigated should the new owners discover some unpleasant surprises about their new building. These changes could definitely cause inconveniences for the tenants living in the building.

I moved into 2290 av girouard in march 2010 were it was promoted that anyone moving in before april will get a month free with we haven't and the renovations let me tell you are cheap and nasty! The installed new heating thermostats which do not work in my apartment and I have a new born baby! And i have been asking for screens in my apartment for over 6 months and heard nothing and also that they sold us the apartment with promising of a gym pool and sauna room which was a lie because there is still nothing and the laundry room is dangerous and balconies and fire escape is so dangerous I would rather in case of a fire go through the fire then down those stairs I have a better chance of living! This is the worst apartment ever! I can not wait to complain to the city. I am also convienced that when you are not home they just walk in your apartment which has happened to me while I was sleeping in my room with my baby! They allowed a stranger that needed to fix the intercoms have a key to walk into my apartment with no notice towards me! I woke up with a stranger in my house! And the garbage in the back is horrible that there is bugs that come into my house and recently had to leave my house for 5 days because there was a family of flies (over 200) flies in my house!. No joke! It is so bad my roomate decided to leave and get another apartment and she still pays this one but left for how made it was! She rather pay for an apartment she is never in because she hates it that much! :s Now that means there is something wrong!
Oh and also they said that rent was 950.00 with everything included which it is not and extreamlly expensive for the worst renovations possible! I could complain more but for now that's all I have to say!
